The Norwich Magazine was essentially an attempt at a literary monthly with poetry and reviews together with articles on a wide range of less than literary topics, including geology, history, meteorology, reports on the Norwich Mechanics' Institution, rural customs, tobacco and comets. The editor accepted that "from a commercial point of view" it had "proved a complete failure" but hoped that critics would look kindly on its literary merits. The Magazine ceased publication after these twelve issues.
