The Bath Reformation Society was an extreme anti-Catholic, pro-Protestant society. "Our object is simply to arrest the progress of popery, and to advance the cause of Protestantism". Friends of the Society were asked "to communicate intelligence respecting the operations of the church of Rome, who are now actively engaged in various places in advancing the interests of the papacy".
